Singapore June Holidays

The June Holidays in 2027 run from 29 May to 27 Jun, 30 days, of which 20 are working days you have to cover.

The four-week mid-year break after Term 2, the longest of the year.

Dates

How long it actually is

The June holidays do not start in June. Term 2 ends on a Friday in late May, so the break opens on a Saturday in May: 30 May in 2026, and 29 May in 2027, per the MOE calendars for 2026 and 2027. Every published calendar runs it from late May to late June. Book leave "from 1 June" and you hand back the first two or three days of your own break.

Thirty calendar days, twenty working days. It is also the only break that is a semester boundary rather than a term one: Semester 1 closes, Semester 2 opens, and timetables or subject bands can change on the other side of it.

It used to be the post-examination break. MOE removed mid-year examinations for all primary and secondary levels by 2023, freeing roughly three weeks of curriculum time per level, so June no longer works as recovery from a paper. If your own memory of the June break is from before that, it is out of date.

It is the one break where the whole family is off together. Primary, secondary, junior college and Millennia Institute share the same June dates in every published calendar. The year-end break does not work that way.

What it is good for, and what to skip

Twenty working days is the only stretch long enough for travel as a block rather than a squeeze. Four weeks absorbs a two-week trip and still leaves a fortnight, so the shape that works is one block of travel, one block of camp, and one block of nothing, in whatever order the flights allow.

What June is bad for is filling day by day. Four weeks is about forty weekday half-days to invent, and inventing them one at a time is the most common way a June break goes wrong. Pick a week that works, one camp morning, one library afternoon, one pool day, one visit, then run that week twice.

What to skip: buying all four weeks of camp. Camp is the most expensive way to cover a day, and covering twenty working days with it costs more than most families spend on the trip. Cover the days you genuinely cannot cover another way and let the rest be slow. The June camps guide sorts providers by what they cost per covered day, and the June ideas guide has the free and cheap end.

The childcare maths

Twenty working days per child against six days of childcare leave per parent. That ratio, more than the length, is what makes June hard.

Stagger rather than stack. Two parents taking different days cover twelve of the twenty between them; the same twelve days taken together cover six. It is the highest-value decision in the whole break and it costs nothing. The rules, including the drop from six days to two the year your youngest turns seven, are in the childcare leave guide and at MOM.

Eight working days are still left over, which is where annual leave, flexi-work, grandparents, student care and camps come in. Which public holidays fall inside the break changes from year to year, and those are the only weekdays already covered for you, so check your year rather than assume: the childcare gap tool counts them, and the leave optimizer ranks which annual leave days stretch furthest.

What it costs, and when

June is expensive, but it is not the peak. On Changi's monthly passenger series at data.gov.sg, June 2025 came in at 5.88 million against 5.97 million in July and 6.34 million in December. December beat June in 2023, 2024 and 2025.

Fares track the school calendar more tightly than the airport total does, and inside the break the expensive days are the opening and closing weekends, when everyone moves at once. Two things follow. Flying midweek in the middle fortnight is where the fare difference sits. And a departure in the last days of May, before the calendar month turns, is often priced as May rather than June, even though it is the same break.

On camps, the number that decides your budget is cost per covered working day, not the headline fee. A cheap half-day camp that still leaves an afternoon to solve is not cheap. Check current prices with the provider; the camps guide has the ranges and the catches.
